 We at Camille Fournet are undisputed masters of our art, which is founded on almost sixty years of experience.
The making of a watchstrap involves a series of intricate operations covering preparation, assembly and finishing, and sometimes including almost sixty different stages. Five years ago, our traditional methods were enhanced by the introduction of technology to our in-house quality control laboratory.

Protecting Endangered Species

Admiring the beauty of nature means having respect for it. We at Camille Fournet guarantee that the leathers used to make our products come from sources complying with the Convention on international trade in endangered species (CITES). The majority of the skins come from monitored farms and is checked right through the marketing of finished products.

Design, Quality, Experience, 3.000 Watch Straps per Day

Up to sixty operations for a single strap, where the crafts man's steady, precise hand is guided by a keen eye. After selecting the skin, comes cutting out and making up the stays, embossing and linings, followed by hand-stitching, creasing the edges, edge dyeing with a brush, adding the loops, striving for perfection at every single stage.
These amazingly regular "dotted lines" – the stitching – that has run along the edges of the straps, adding to their beauty as well as their authenticity, one of the work of the leader craftsmen. Take a look over their shoulder and wonder at their skill and dexterity.
The visible portion of the stitch is prettily called the "perle" ("Bead or Pearl" in French).
The strap is held in a wooden-clip called "belle-mère" ("Stepmother") and the wholes are pierced with an awl.
The thread is impregnated with natural beeswax so that it passes more easily through the leather.
Each leather craftsman expresses his oen particular style which is what gives the hand stitching its refinement and subtle elegance. |
